Max was my first real boyfriend and I have such fond memories of him and his family.  I'll never forget meeting him when he roped me with his lariet out his pick up truck window!  Sounds like a country song....  He loved playing baseball with his friends, loved hunting and fishing with his brothers, loved to have meals at his Mom's house with his sister following him where ever we went; love Rita forever, he and Doug or Dan'l as we called him then, were joined at the hip, and he loved to party at OU. He left OU during our freshman year and we drifted apart but I will always hold a special place in my heart for Max.  Miss you cowboy, Gwenn

I was in the Atlanta airport when I read about Max and shed a few tears. Max was a love, an electric impulse, a terrific infielder, a partner in some hijinx (usually with Doug Smith involved, too). I witnessed that Max and Gwenn's romance was beautiful, and full of laughts, too. Max was amazing, as was his family -- Mona was such a rock, and a friend to all of Max's friends. I didn't stay in touch with Max after high school, but he's never been out of my mind. We had great times, and I can see and hear him now. Ride high, Max! Ride on!

Gwenn and Chuck:

Your comments are spot on.  Max and I loved to talk about and laughed about our experinces from baseball to all the other crazy stuff we got into. When we move on in life to adulthood with spouses, kids, and family life we tend to neglect our past relationships.  I can assure you that Max never forgot his.  I have been lucky to have him as a lifelong friend.  He was never assuming or judgemental.  Just MAX. Probably as close as a brother.  A few weeks ago is when he and I last visited.  When I left his house he started texting saying how much he loved our time together.  I knew he didn't look well but I didn't know that in his own way he was telling me goodbye.

Till we meet again.
